Mark Wielaard: New GPG key.
Finally created a new GPG key using gnupg. The old one was a DSA/1024 bits one and 8 years old. The new one is a RSA/2048 bits one. I will use the new one in the future to sign any release tarballs I might create. pub 2048R/57816A6A 2011-01-29 Key f...

SOA and ITIL
We're doing SOA here at UCLA Health System. That means we're performing data reuse, developing and integrating components, ensuring interoperability and recognizing a host of standards, like HL7 and SOAP. With clinical applications sitting in this mix, this means we are really tight on Service Management (Service Support and Service Delivery) with a more than healthy helping of Security Management.
The thing you sometimes see in development environments is a lack of standardization of the processes that should govern the product lifecycle. And no, Agile Scrum isn't going to cover all your bases in a SOA environment like ours, or perhaps that of a financial institution. When environments like that get large and complex, and safety, security and quick service responses are required, your Java development process becomes more than just a hackfest.
I was looking at ITIL recently (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) in terms of our UCLA JUG and what I could do to bring some advanced process to the side projects we'd like to do. In researching, I found a great article on IBM's Developer Works by Kunal Mittal. It's called Merging Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). Of course, we're eventually going to do ITIL at UCLA Health System (I'm planning on an ITIL cert this year) but like all things, it takes time. In the meantime, I had some thoughts ...
